About Me

My name is Tam Carr and I'm now 48 years old (doesn't time fly).  I'm still married to Jane (although she doesn't know why) and have two daughters, Claire 20 and Cristy 16. When I left school I joined the Merchant Navy with the Ben Line working my way from Cadet to Third Mate. In 1983 I transferred to the Oil Industry and since then have worked in the North Sea, Holland, Denmark, Israel and for the last 8 years South East Asia. I'm employed as Barge Engineer and presently work a 28 day on / 28 day off schedule on the Drilling Tender Smedvig T-8 in the Gulf of Thailand. Home is in Edinburgh not too far up the road from Tynecastle Park where the Jambo's play.

My Interests

Heart of Midlothian F.C.
I first started following Hearts when I was 12 years old. My family had recently moved to Edinburgh from Berwick-on-Tweed and my dad somehow got the job of renewing the floodlight lamps at Tynecastle. I would go along with him and was able to see behind the scenes and sometimes even meet the players, that was me hooked. Obviously I don't get to all their games but seldom miss one if I'm at home. I'm also a Share holder and New 500 Club member.

"that'll be the day"

It was the 16th of May 1998 and a day that has gone down in the history of Heart of Midlothian Football Club.

After it was all over it was decided that a book of memories should be compiled with contributions from true fans, players, the referee and other well known names. The lady who undertook this task was Gwen McIlroy and she was assisted by Alan McPherson.

Gwen wanted to create a record of the occasion which would show what it had meant to all the Gorgie Road faithful. She asked the fans to write to her with their stories of that day and what it had meant to them. I decided to have a go, and wrote my tale of the build up and journey home to the Cup Final. I was lucky enough for it to be included in the book and would now like to share it with you all. Whether you are a Hearts fan or not the book is amazing and I think you would enjoy reading about our special day. The emotions it describes are very personal and at times heartbreaking but they are all genuine. If you enjoy my story then I'm sure you would love the rest of

It is still available from the Hearts Superstore or if out of stock from Gwen McIlroy priced at £9.99.
